Nearly 120 different Troika! character backgrounds ranging from classic fantasy types like Adventurer and Rogue to the more uncommon like the Merbutler and Three Kids In A Trenchcoat.

While this may be for use with Troika!, these character and spell concepts can be used as a springboard for creating characters in other games.

There's a .pdf, .doc, and .odt file. They all have identical content, so use whichever you prefer or find most convenient.

I had a particular need for a chunk of "normal" backgrounds to build into a Troika game (think "Arthur Dent"). This mostly fulfills that need but reading through it wanted to comment further.

There's a huge dump of info here so it's hard to comment/review without going a bit long. There are some fairly-to-perfectly Troika backgrounds that are great as is (Entomancer and Devourer are pretty solid, Merbutler would be good for at least a one-off, ditto on the Garden Gnome) and there are several non-Troika backgrounds that would make nice drop ins (Juggler, Tourist) but the very nature of the document means there are a lot moments you would probably need to tweak/update/expand to use. Needs more Specials. The intro admits the equipment list needs some work and I agree. They at least get the thoughts flowing.

There are glitches here or there (like the "Archivist" knowing Dewey Decimal as a quick library joke that doesn't really feel like an Archivist). And some feel like they need to be less "balanced" to really find their vibe. Bullet Witch is an example of this. Not only does the description break down a bit (I think there is at least a typo or two) but the equipment and skills miss out on making the character feel all the different from the Gunner later on. I'm not sure what the Blood Mage is really supposed to be besides a person who collects blood. Which is "fine" but I think there is meant to be more to it.

So, I'm a fan of this document but I think I would probably rather break this down into 3 lots of d66 types (Troika-esque, "Classic Classes from Other Games", everyday folk) and combine a few of the more repetitive elements (Infestor and Awoken are kind of the same) or find things that make them definitely different. For the most part, the size of this document means the sheer joy of some of these might be lost in the several "kills things with a weapon" types.
